By Zsofia Raffa | AI Growth Strategist & Marketing Advisor
You may have remembered for our talk in 2024 with Jade Tambini during the Martecopia event in London, about how to utilize social media as Databank.
Since then, I don’t see much developments or creativity, when it comes to first prospect touch on LinkedIn. As I see it, most outbound doesn’t fail because people dislike cold outreach intros.
It fails because it sounds like cold outreach.
You’ve probably seen messages like these:
“Hope you’re doing well.”
“I wanted to connect because…”
“We help companies increase revenue by…”
“You do a mistake by…”
Delete.
Delete.
Delete.
Your prospect has already received fifty versions of the exact same message this week.
The problem isn’t LinkedIn.
The problem isn’t AI.
The problem is that most companies spend weeks defining who they want to reach, and only seconds thinking about what they should actually say.
In my previous article, I explained why every growth strategy starts with a clearly defined Ideal Customer Profile (ICP). Clear definition helps you identify companies that are genuinely worth reaching out.
But identifying the right prospect is only half of the job.
The first touch determines whether the conversation ever begins.
Earn the right to start the conversation!
Your first message is not a sales pitch.
It’s not a product demo.
It’s not even about selling.
Its only job is to earn one thing:
A reply.
Every additional sentence that doesn’t help achieve that objective reduces your response rate.
Most outreach fails because it tries to compress an entire sales pitch into one LinkedIn message.
Your prospect doesn’t need your company’s mission.
They don’t need your feature list.
They need a reason to believe that this message wasn’t generated for another thousand people.
Ironically, AI makes this both easier and harder.
Unfortunately, most people generate exactly the same outreach.
AI Doesn’t Replace Personalization. It Multiplies It.
One of the biggest misconceptions around AI is that it should write messages for you.
It shouldn’t.
It should help you understand the person you’re writing to.
As I already explained in my LinkedIn strategy, that means identifying signals like:
- Recent company announcements
- Hiring activity
- Competitor analysis
- Birthday
- Funding rounds
- Product launches
- Leadership changes
- Content they’ve published
- Technologies they’re using
- Business challenges they are likely facing

These insights become context.
Context creates relevance.
Relevance creates conversations.
And conversations generate pipeline.
Maybe not in day 1, but definitely a valuable pipeline.
The companies winning with AI aren’t sending more messages.
They’re sending #zSofisticated ones.
From ICP to Personalized Outreach
This is why I built after the ICP definition, my second free GitHub repository:
Instead of asking AI to “write me a LinkedIn message,” the workflow helps structure a personalized first touch around real business context.
It combines:
- ICP insights
- Company research
- Prospect context
- Pain points
- Value proposition
- Human messaging principles
The result isn’t another generic prompt.
It’s a repeatable outreach workflow that your sales or marketing team can use.
You can explore it here: https://github.com/zSofisticated/cold-outreach-personalizer
The Real Competitive Advantage Isn’t AI
Everyone now has access to LLMs such as Claude or ChatGPT.
Everyone has prompts.
Everyone can automate.
Those aren’t competitive advantages anymore.
Your advantage comes since the very beginnings of the existence of LinkedIn:
- the right customer,
- the right timing,
- the right context,
- and the right message.
Miss one of these, and automation scales irrelevance.
Garbage in garbage out.
Get all four rights, and AI becomes a growth multiplier instead of a spam generator.
Why This Matters for B2B Companies
B2B buying cycle can be up to 10 touch points, when the prospect contacts you or only 1 single search on a LLM.
Decision-makers are overwhelmed.
Attention has become the scarcest resource in marketing.
A personalized first touch isn’t about sounding clever.
It’s about showing that you’ve done the work before asking for someone else’s time.
That single shift changes the conversation from bagging for a:
“Can I have 30 minutes?”
to
“This person actually understands me.”
That’s a very different starting point.
Build Better Systems, Not Better Templates
Too many teams generates generic outreach templates.
Few thinking in systems.
The difference matters.
Templates become outdated.
People get board.
Systems improve over time.
My approach is simple:
- Define your Ideal Customer Profile.
- Research the company.
- Understand the individual.
- Identify a relevant business trigger.
- Use AI to organize insights—not replace thinking.
- Write like a human.
That’s how scalable personalization actually works.
